As part of my textual analysis I am analysing a contents page for this I am once again using the music magazine Kerrang to keep consistancy and for comparisons to the already analysed title page.
At the top of the page is the contents title which is in bold font that is larger than that of other fonts on the page. It’s in a black box, and the font is a bright yellow to contrast that of the box. It is for these reasons the contents stands out and can easily be recognised; besides the fact it is layed out in a typical contents page fashion.
The contents page informs the readers, what’s going to be included, not only by text but also by pictures. As you can see the page is predominantly pictures and i felt this as a reader helped make the page more attractive as it would be a bit bland and uninteresting with just text.
On the right hand side of the page there is a column that highlights the all the features included in this week’s issue. Small subheadings are used and these are shown in a bright yellow font. This is to show their importance by using subheadings and dividing the magazine up, and including page numbers, they have made it much easier for the reader to find exactly what they are looking for. This technique is used in most magazines to eliminate time-wasting and confusion.
They dont only include selling lines on the front cover as shown if you look in the bottom right hand corner. The reader can get “K Delivered to their door.” There is a number for readers to subscribe to this offer, the reason why they have used such a bright red is to attract readers to read and sign up to their exciting new offer.
The page is covered with medium sized boxes detailing small snippets of what else is going to be in the issue. They are set out in an organised manor an contain a picture of the story with a brief discription underneath, or in some cases a rhetorical question to invite the reader to read further into the article.
The colour scheme is limited to black white and yellow. This keep the page tidy, and makes it easier for the reader to understand and read. Overall this is an effective contents page, it gives enough information to keep the reader interested without the page looking untidy or confusing.
